Power Factor Correction for a 400V Spot Welding Machine

Features: The spot welding machine is characterized by transient impact load, requiring compensation equipment with extremely high response speed and compensation accuracy. Additionally, the device must have a strong tolerance for impact current.

Power Factor Correction for a 400V Spot Welding Machine

Project background: In the assembly and welding workshop of a commercial vehicle manufacturing company, Transformer supplies loads consisting entirely of spot welding machines, which are classified as impact loads with a short duration, lasting only about 200 milliseconds. The average power factor was relatively low. To improve the power factor, an 800 kVar SVG (Static Var Generator) was installed to provide dynamic and precise reactive power compensation.

Installation of Static Var Generator

Using a power quality analyzer to measure the power factor on the system side, From the data, it can be seen that the power factor is low, with an average power factor of 0.63, which fails to meet power company's requirements, and the electricity costs will significantly increase.

After the installation of the SVG, the power factor on the system side was measured again using a power quality analyzer, with the measurement data shown . From the data, it can be seen that after the installation of the SVG, the system-side power factor increased from the original 0.63 to 0.917, demonstrating a significant improvement and meeting the power company's standards.
